My name is Andrew & I am an award winning architect with over 20 years wide ranging experience. I've created everything from schools and hotels to extensions, barn conversions and yoga studios and while working for Rural Office for Architecture was project architect for Caring Wood which won the RIBA Grand Designs house of the year 2017
Throughout my career I have worked with local authorities, housing associations, The Eden Project and private clients to design, manage and build highly sustainable, natural buildings that are both practical and beautiful to live in.
Design & Making
My approach to design centres on simplifying spaces, forms and materials to provide clarity to how they are organised, lived in and built
Weather this is reorganising or extending an existing home or creating an entirely new dwelling I aim at all stages of the design process to find simple, elegant solutions for the complex needs of the people who live in them.
From opening up views and daylight, improving flow and privacy, resolving storage and clutter or creating spaces to bring people together my buildings, furniture and landscapes are consciously designed around how my clients want to live and work, to create useful and beautiful homes.
I use simple palettes of materials and forms which are carefully detailed to create clear and restful spaces. I am passionate about how buildings are put together which helps me to design robustly and economically and to present this in a way that builders and clients can easily understand. Building is a collaborative process and I work hard to foster respectful relationships with everyone on the project team.
Working with me
I work at a range of scales from internal renovations and extensions to new build houses and master planning for farms and smallholdings.
I have a high level of technical experience of construction detailing and getting buildings built. I specialise in complex problem solving whether this is resolving difficult structures or services, working with small or challenging spaces or securing planning on sensitive sites such as conservation areas or National Parks
