Hoel Senni
Conversion of former cow shed to a cosy annex in the heart of the Brecon Beacons. Hoel Senni is a beautiful slow project where the client Rob has taken on much of the building work with a commitment to natural and traditional materials. With only subtle amendments to the layout and retaining as many original features as possible the barn has been transformed into a self contained living space with stunning views out across the garden to the mountains beyond. The walls have been lovingly insulated with wood fiber board and lime plaster to preserve their original sculpted profiles with the roof timbers retained and exposed. Even with the relatively modest improvement to the overall thermal performance achievable with 100mm of wood fiber and lime insulation to the barn walls, the space is now extraordinarily efficient with very low heating costs showing that natural solutions can still bring massive benefits to historic renovations.
